DESIGN DIRECTOR / SENIOR ARCHITECT

WestEast is actively seeking to expand our professional design staff. We are looking for an experienced professional who is organized, graphically talented and strong in the design process to work on Health Care, Higher Education and Government projects. 

The Senior Design Architect oversees the design process to ensure design excellence for all projects and ensures that the design is responsive to our clients’ needs, aspirations, and budget, while maintaining the firm’s design standards and expectations. The Senior Design Architect will work directly with the Principal Architect and the Project Architect to develop and execute a project design.

Employment Type

·      Full-Time (40 hrs. a week)

Experience

·      10 years of experience preferred

·      Experience as principal project designer and design manager over multiple projects

Education Requirements

·      Professional Bachelors or Masters of Architecture from an NAAB accredited University (M.Arch., B.Arch.)

·      Licensed Architect (preferred)

Qualifications

·      Ability to present and sell design concepts

·      Responsive to constructability and our clients’ budget concerns

·      Advanced graphic skills

·      Ability to guide the team in developing construction documentation that supports the design intent

·      Ability to positively instruct others in technical and graphic skills

Software Skills

·      AutoCAD and/or Revit with additional rendering software capabilities

·      Free-hand graphic skills for communicating design intent

REGISTERED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

WestEast Design Group is establishing an MEP engineering department and has an immediate opening for a highly qualified Registered Electrical Engineer.

Employment Type

Full-time (40 hrs. a week)

Experience

  • Total 10 years as a Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum 5 years as a licensed Engineer in Texas.
  • Minimum 5 years in leading engineering design teams on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Commissioning experience is a plus

 Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in electrical engineering

Qualifications

  • Professional with electrical engineer license in Texas who has led a design team through successful projects

Software Skills

  • Visual and SKM. Lighting Design Photometric Programs, PC software Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Microsoft 365. AutoCAD, MEP AutoCAD and Revit experience capabilities are a plus.

 Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Experience engineering and designing local and federal government projects and institutional projects including higher education, healthcare, commercial and industrial projects
  • Creating electrical project documents, plans, and specifications for strong and reliable electrical distribution/lighting/power systems design
  • Review RFP scopes and prepare proposals, cost estimates and bid evaluations
  • Involvement in company business development for the Engineering Department
  • Planning and preparing engineered construction documentations for assigned projects, aiding in engineering decisions, and working as a project manager to meet deadlines in collaboration with engineers and architect
  • Able to function efficiently on multiple projects which may consist of performing and scheduling work, materials, tools, equipment, and information to ensure attainment of scope/project performance and construction schedules
  • Have oversight of others and work in unison with the A/E team
  • Project coordination, meeting attendance, and deliverables
  • On-site visits as necessary to collect existing condition information and construction administration for new projects
  • Direct construction administration activities, review shop drawings, answer RFIs, resolve construction difficulties, and coordinate field installations as required for each project. Proactively seek potential issues or project risk
  • Meet deadlines and quality standards while adhering to ethical and efficient standard procedures
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the NEC, IECC, IBC, ASHRAE 90.1, UFC, and associated NFPA standards
  • High-level interpersonal relationship skills, proficiency in communication skills and organization skills
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to associate and junior engineers and designers
  • LEED accreditation is a plus

WestEast Design Group is a professional architectural design firm. Current areas of practice include Higher Education, Local Government, Retail, Hospitality, and Health Care facilities. Our services include Architecture, Interior Design, Urban Planning, Project Management, Construction Administration and Design Build Contracting. We currently employ 30 professionals at our San Antonio office located in the Pearl Development near Downtown. 

General Requirements

  • Full-Time (40 hrs a week)
  • 0-4 years of experience
  • Bachelors or Masters in Architecture / Environmental Design or Interior Design from an accredited University- Professional level degree preferred (B.Arch, M.Arch.)
  • Applicants without a degree must demonstrate strong drafting skills

Skills

  • Strong graphic and drawings skills required
  • AutoCAD / Revit / 3D Studio / Sketchup
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Must demonstrate a self-motivated ability to learn new software packages
  • This position is for those individuals with above average technology and presentation skills

Personal Abilities

  • Must convey confidence in verbal presentations 
  • Must be able to work well in a team setting
  • Must be comfortable meeting with clients and working directly with senior design and project management staff

Responsibilities

  • The primary requirement of this position is to work directly with Sr. Architects, Project Managers and Production Managers to develop specific areas of design and construction documentation.
  • Daily work may also include participating on a project team during ongoing projects.
  • Attending client meetings will be an essential part of this job. A professional appearance is required.
  • Work often requires local and some out of town travel. Work hours will vary based on project deadlines. The candidate must be efficient and willing to tackle any job.
