Kirby Animal Shelter

Kirby Animal Shelter

The City of Kirby outgrew its animal shelter capacity and tasked WestEast with designing a new shelter that could expand in the future. Construction on the new facility started recently on municipal-owned land and is being funded by Bexar County. The first phase of the project included uncovered loading and unloading areas adjacent to sally port, 120 kennels (24 net SF per kennel), food storage and preparation areas, laundry (wash/dry) facilities, towel storage, an electric water heater closet, unisex restrooms, and a fenced play/run area. The facility’s structure, walls and roof are constructed from a pre-engineered metal building system.
