The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd has long been a congregation committed to serving the community. For decades, it has stood as a beacon of hope, offering comfort and support to all, without exception. In recent years, however, like many churches across the country, Good Shepherd has faced the challenge of a declining congregation and uncertainty about its future direction.
In response, Good Shepherd partnered with Good Acres to reimagine how the church could address these challenges and leverage its resources to better serve the community. This collaboration led to the creation of the Goliad Road Community of Promise (GRCP), a vision for a thriving neighborhood where every family has access to the support, resources, and connections needed to flourish.
In partnership with Good Acres, the Social Impact Studio (SIS) at WestEast spearheaded community engagement efforts to gather input on how the church could best serve the needs of its neighbors. The insights gained through this process were instrumental in shaping the architectural design, ensuring that the final concept reflects the community’s culture and identity. This design aims to implement infrastructural improvements that enhance access to resources, foster intergenerational connections, and promote upward mobility.
