The Project

The project focuses on creating a newrefrigerated food processing and distribution facility, incorporating advancedtechnology for food preparation and cooking. The expansion required carefulplanning and execution, including a utility survey, upsizing necessaryutilities, installing IMP wall and ceiling panels, setting up refrigerationsystems and freezers, and allocating approximately 10% of the facility foroffice and support spaces.

The Methodology

WestEast coordinated with structural and civil engineers to ensure the new roof could handle the additional drainage from the existing roof. This included working with the structural engineer to set the exact roof height and slope for a seamless connection, and with the civil engineer to modify the underground storm drainage system to manage the increased volume.

WestEast collaborated extensively with the civil engineers to develop the new site grading, navigating the challenges of the existing conditions while ensuring no negative slopes were introduced toward the existing construction. Careful coordination was required to manage drainage patterns and protect the integrity of the surrounding facilities.

The Result

The design team successfully addressed the roofdrainage by precisely matching the new roof elevation and slope to the existingroofs. Heavy-duty scuppers and downspouts were incorporated to manage theincreased water volume, directing it efficiently to the stormwater mains. Theproposed site grading provides positive drainage around both the existing andnew construction. Additionally, mineral wool insulated metal panel (IMP) wallswere selected between the existing and new structures to achieve the required3-hour fire separation.
